DKM Academy is a martial arts training facility located at 398 Steeles Ave W, Unit B1, Thornhill, Ontario, L4J 6X2, Canada. In this policy, "we", "us" and "our" refer to DKM Academy. "You" refers to any visitor to our website or member of our facility.
We are the organization accountable for the personal information under our control. Privacy questions may be directed to us by phone at (647) 897-1931 or in person at the address above.
When you request a free class, we collect participant identity and contact details, date of birth, address, class preferences, emergency contacts, relevant medical and safety disclosures, a government-issued identity document, consent selections, and an electronic signature. For a minor, we also collect the parent or legal guardian's identity, authority, contact information, identification and signature.
If you become a member, we may additionally collect attendance history and billing records processed by our payment provider.
Our website may automatically collect limited technical information such as your IP address, browser type and pages visited, for security and performance purposes.
We use your information to schedule and confirm classes, respond to enquiries, administer memberships and billing, keep required safety and waiver records, contact you in an emergency, and, where you have consented, send you news about programs and events.
We do not sell, rent or trade your personal information to third parties.
By submitting a booking or enquiry form, you consent to our collection and use of that information for the purposes described above. You may withdraw consent at any time, subject to legal or contractual restrictions and reasonable notice, by contacting us. Withdrawing consent may mean we can no longer provide certain services.
Marketing emails, where sent, comply with Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL) and always include an unsubscribe option.
Your information is stored in access-controlled systems and is visible only to authorized DKM Academy staff. Our website and database infrastructure is operated by third-party service providers who may store data on servers located outside Canada, including in the United States; where this occurs, your information may be subject to the laws of that jurisdiction.
Signed intake records, legal-text snapshots, identification, signatures and canonical PDFs are retained for seven years by default to support safety administration and DKM Academy's legal interests. That default remains subject to review by a qualified Ontario lawyer and may change where law, a dispute, an insurance requirement, or an authorized deletion request requires a different period.
Records moved to Recently Deleted are held in a recoverable state for 28 days, after which the record and associated private files are permanently erased unless preservation is legally required.
We use essential cookies and local storage to operate the site, remember your cookie choice, and keep staff signed in. Optional analytics and marketing cookies are only set if you consent through our cookie banner. You can change your choice at any time via "Cookie Settings" in the website footer. Our Kids programs serve participants aged 7–15. Registration information for minors is provided and consented to by a parent or legal guardian. We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children without guardian consent.
You have the right to request access to the personal information we hold about you, to request correction of inaccurate information, and to request deletion where we are not legally required to retain it. Contact us and we will respond within 30 days.
If you are not satisfied with our response, you may contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
If a breach of security safeguards involving your personal information creates a real risk of significant harm, we will notify you and report it to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada as required by PIPEDA, and keep a record of the breach.
We may update this policy from time to time. The revised version takes effect when posted on this page, and the "last updated" date above will change accordingly.
