Sparring Without Fear: How DKM Builds You Up to Contact
Sparring is where skills become real. It should never be where beginners get hurt. Here is how we do it right.
The first time I sparred, my heart was pounding before the bell even rang. That fear is normal. The job of a good gym is to turn that fear into focus, step by step.
/Step one: technical sparring
Light contact, agreed pace, one or two techniques at a time. The goal is timing and reading your partner, not winning.
/Step two: the right gear
Headgear, mouthguard, 14 or 16 ounce gloves and shin guards for Muay Thai. We check your gear before every session.
/Step three: the right partner
Coaches match you by size, experience and temperament. Experienced members are expected to take care of newer ones.
/Step four: Sparring Saturdays
Once you are comfortable, Saturday sessions give you structured rounds with coaching between each one.
/You are always in control
Sparring is optional. You can stop any round, any time. The fighters who last are the ones who train smart.
